Flaxseeds come from the seeds of the flax plant Linum usitatissimum. While the seed is small, it’s highly valued in nutrition circles as a health food because it contains essential fatty acids, dietary fibre and lignans – a phytonutrient (plant nutrient) that contributes to overall good health.(1,2,3) Flaxseeds provide the richest plant source of alpha-linoleic acid (ALA), the head of the omega-3 fatty acids family.(3) Since the body cannot synthesize omega-3 fatty acids on its own, consuming food sources such as flaxseeds, are essential for the maintenance of good health. Anyone who is looking to increase their fibre intake to support healthy digestion can look to milled flaxseeds as a source of soluble and insoluble fibre.(3) Mix into pancake batter, baking or baked dishes, cereal, or simply add to a blender drink – there are many great ways to incorporate milled flax into your daily diet! A 15 g (two-tablespoon) serving of ground flaxseeds provides 40% of the daily amount shown to help reduce cholesterol. High cholesterol is a risk factor for heart disease.(4) Features and benefits: Cold milled, Fine ground, Source of soluble and insoluble fibre, Certified organic, free from chemicals or pesticides, Pleasant nutty flavour, Suitable for vegetarians/vegans, Halal, Kosher, Gluten free, Peanut free, No starch, wheat, soy, yeast, or corn, No sugar or salt, No dairy, egg or animal products, No fish or shellfish, No tree nuts, Non-GMO, No artificial colours, preservatives, or sweeteners, Flushed with an inert gas (nitrogen) to prevent oxidation and maintain freshness, Packaged in Canada, Dosage: Suggested usage: 2–3 tablespoons daily Suggestion: Sprinkle ground flaxseed on hot or cold cereals, sandwich spreads, salads, yogurt, fruits, and desserts, Mix into pancake batter or your favourite juice or blender drink, for added fibre and a pleasant nutty flavour, Cautions or Warnings: Keep out of the reach of children, Storage: Press the air out of the package and refrigerate after opening, Best if used within 3–4 months after opening, Product can be frozen to extend the shelf life, For product freshness, protect from heat and humidity, References: 1 EatRight Ontario [Internet].
